"Let the Children come to me; do not hinder them, for to such belongs the Kingdom of God. Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child shall not enter it." And he took them in his arms and blessed them... Mark 10:14,15
This is perhaps one of the most popular verses about children in the bible. It's powerful on so many levels and exposes Christ's deep and passionate love for the littlest of his creation. With each and every day, I am challenged to see the importance of being a parent and not only loving my child, but guiding and teaching her. Yes, she's just a wee-one. But, the habit starts now. We "set the stage" now.
In what seems like a blink of the eye, my baby is half-way a toddler. Life passes us by so very fast.
This coming Sunday, we will dedicate our Bonnie Grace to the Lord. As her parents, we commit to raise her with a foundation built on Christ. We commit to talk about Jesus, read about the Lord, and praise His name aloud. We pray that someday, when the Lord knocks on her heart, she may answer in acceptance and choose to live her life for Him. We commit to waking up each day and not just sing these words to her, but live them too: "this is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it."
Mostly, we know that we will certainly require a large dose of God's grace with parenting. We will make mistakes and hopefully learn from them. We will need to lean on Him for patience, strength, and endurance to get through those difficult days and be consistent in our loving care and discipline for her. We also know that it takes a village. We are so thankful for supportive and loving family who adore Bonnie. Being entrusted with Bonnie's life and tasked to lovingly parent her is by far the most important job I have ever been given. It's an honor and the biggest joy of my life.
What a gift from the Lord you are, Bonnie. We pray you grow to love and serve Him while taking delight in His creation and blessings.
